The Mako Server removes all of the complexity from deploying a web application. In a traditional deployment, many components need to be installed before a web application becomes operational. With the Mako Server, it's as easy to install a new web application as it is to install a Windows application. All of the system components are included in a single Mako Server installation file. And developers can compress all of the LUA business logic scripts that they have written into a single .ZIP file.
The Mako Server is small and fast and can deliver dynamically generated content 70% faster than the Apache web server can deliver static content. The Mako Server lets developers run their applications on computers as large as a Windows desktop computer or as small as an embedded Linux platform such as the Raspberry Pi. From the software developer's viewpoint, the Mako Server lets you create a single set of Lua scripts that will run on any modern Windows, Linux, or Mac computer.
The Lua scripting language is easy to learn. Developers who have used the ASP or PHP server scripting technologies will become proficient in Lua programming in an afternoon. Lua has the power to support advanced, complex server-side web applications. Developers who have C/C++ experience can extend the server with new functionality by loading C libraries at runtime.
The SQLite database is integrated into the Mako Server. Also included are a WebDAV server, an SMTP client, an SSL-enabled sockets library, and an extensive web services library.
